The Tri-Cities area of Tennessee is comprised of Johnson City, Bristol, Kingsport and the surrounding smaller communities. Located in Northeastern Tennessee and surrounded by the beautiful Appalachian Mountains, the Tri-Cities can be an outdoor playground for people who love to hike, rock climb, mountain bike and much more.

Bristol is a unique place because it lies on the border of Tennessee and Virginia allowing for a Bristol, Tennessee and a Bristol, Virginia. With Bristol being the birthplace of country music there is a lot of history here about famous artists. There are also many music festivals in Bristol TN such as the Rhythm and Roots festival that is hosted downtown every year. The Rhythm and Roots Festival began 6 years ago and is a great tribute to local music and musicians. This festival features many groups that truly showcase the roots of country music and bluegrass. Bristol is also home to the Bristol Motor Speedway. This is the shortest track in NASCAR being only ¼ mile.

There are two major NASCAR races held each year - the Nextel Cup Series and the Busch Classic. Bristol Motor Speedway also hosts the Speedway of Lights Festival every year during the holidays. During this time you can drive your own car around the track and view light displays and even go ice skating. Bristol Caverns is also an interesting place to visit while in the Tri Cities area. Here you can explore the Underground River that carved the caverns over 200 million years ago. There are also many other must see attractions in Bristol, TN.

Kingsport is a unique place in Tennessee, being located on the South Holston River. The South Holston Dam is one of the largest dams in the world and crosses the Cherokee and Jefferson national forests. The Bays Mountain Park is a very popular location for people to visit. Five states make annual fieldtrips to Bays Mountain Park with school aged kids and it is truly a fun, educational experience. Bays Mountain Park is not only a park but a conservatory, planetarium and animal habitat.

The Netherland Inn is also located in Kingsport, TN and is listed on the National Register of Historical Sites. The inn is situated on the Holston River where the restored structure overlooks Kingsport’s Boat Yard Park. The Boat Yard Park once served as a spot for settlers to build boats in the mid 1700’s. Kingsport is also known for the  beginning of the Wilderness Trail, one of the nation’s most historical hiking routes. The trail starts on the Holston River and goes through Southern Virginia and ends in Kentucky. This became the main route for settlers of the western frontier.

Johnson City is known as the crossroads of the Eastern US and has been the center for tourism and business in Northeast Tennessee for nearly two centuries.
