Johnson
City TN
Johnson City TN is one of the three major
cities in Tennessee that make up the better
known, Tri-Cities of Tennessee. With a
phenomenal location, booming economy and
welcoming atmosphere, Johnson City TN is a
great place to begin looking for
Northeast
Tennessee real estate.
Historically, Johnson City TN has long been
a commercial and economic hub for not only
Tennessee but the entire southeast region of
the country. Founded and named after Henry
Johnson in 1856, Johnson City TN was a major
railroad stop with three railway lines
crossing through the downtown area. Later,
the city would serve as the headquarters for
the East Tennessee and Western North
Carolina Railroad (ET&WNC - which was later
nicknamed “Tweetsie”) and carried many
freight lines and passenger from Boone, NC
to the Northeast Tennessee region. Today,
the Southern Railway, or now Norfolk
Southern, makes frequent passes through the
city.
In addition to being a railroad hub, Johnson
City is also a place where several
interstates intersect and connect with one
another. Both I-81 and I-26 intersect near
Johnson City and make commutes and travel to
other metropolitan areas easier. Also, in
2003 the extension of I-26 from Asheville,
North Carolina to Johnson City was completed
making travel through the Blue Ridge
Mountains possible via the interstate.
Within the city there are remarkable
opportunities for commerce and the area’s
several educational institutions, East
Tennessee State University, Milligan
College, and the Emmanuel School of
Religion, bring new ideas and a give it a
unique character.
Johnson City is truly an incredible place to
live, with extraordinary healthcare,
schools, and
fun things to do, you’ll never
want to leave. Find your next
